Doc - I've been meaning to write in to tell that this Bb Destino (made in Los Angeles) is by far the best horn I've ever played in my pro career!
I spent more than two hours with you at the NAMM show back in January play testing this thing and the next hour "talking you out" of your personal horn- the very horn you were playing - and it was the best thing I've ever done.
The Bb Destino has a beautiful dark tone in the low and mid registers and a clear bright tone in the upper registers if you step it up a notch. Slurs are a snap, pitch is dead on and I can play extremely hard jobs and not get tired like I used to with my previous Bb's. In the studio, it goes to tape (or should I say hard drive) so well that during playbacks, recording engineers can't believe the sound quality. My brass colleagues around me are commenting on well it plays in tune with them - enough said there.
I am using it for all types of sessions and jobs in Los Angeles on a daily basis and it has by far made me love to play the trumpet again. Thanks for all your hard work developing this horn. Please stop now because if you keep making them better I'll go broke!

I had to write to tell you how pleased I am with my new Destino™ Bb Trumpet. The horn arrived yesterday, and tonight’s gig was the first chance I had to really test it out. Everything was exceptional. The horn played itself. It was effortless.
I have possessed countless B-flats in my quest for the ultimate trumpet. Many have been cryo'd, pva's, annealed and otherwise tweaked to squeeze out more performance and efficiency. I’ve had lots of experimental lead pipes, as well. All in pursuit of the ultimate horn. My quest is now finally over. Doc's efforts have resulted in a horn that, in my humble opinion, sets the standard for future trumpet design.
The Destino is a work of art. Quality craftsmanship, great intonation, exceptional fit and finish, effortless slotting. When you push it-it responds. I am happy to be one of the first to own this fine instrument. I look forward with eager anticipation to many years of enjoyment with this new horn.

Thanks to Doc and his team for creating a truly world class Bb trumpet. I consider it to be the ideal horn for today's versatile professional.
Moving between "commercial" and "legit" gigs is what I do, and I have been searching for years for a horn that gives me the ability to make those jumps with ease, without sacrificing the sound in any genre.
The core sound of a horn has always been the number one factor in my picking an instrument. Like most players, I had resigned myself to the fact that I would have to sacrifice one aspect of playing to achieve another. For instance, I might find a horn that had a good core but perhaps did not respond well, etc... You all know what I mean, we would ask ourselves, "Why can't they build a horn that has a lush core *and* a bright sound (still sound like a trumpet), quick response, even scale, and an even blow. Well, Doc and his team have done it! You must try this horn.
The rich, lush core sound of the Destino™ is in a league of its own. What is really amazing is that this core stays consistent as you shift from a bright "commercial" sound to a dark "legit" sound. In other words, you never feel like you are playing the wrong horn for the gig. The first week I had my Destino™ I played two Rock/R&B gigs, a Salsa/Latin Jazz gig, a contemporary church service gig, and a brass quintet recording session.
I would play the Destino™ for only the quality of it's core sound, but what blew me away was how easy this horn is to play. The slotting, scale, response, and blow are all the absolute best I have ever experienced. I can now play through passages with ease that once gave me fits.
I know I sound like a kid who just got his first pro horn...but that's how I feel. The Destino™ is the best fit for today's versatile trumpet player. Having struggled with horns for over twenty years as a "crossover" player, I can't help being excited!

I just wanted to write to you about how much I am enjoying my 2 new Destinos™.
The Bb trumpet is by far the most even and beautifully centered instrument I've ever played. Its tone character reminds me a lot of those great pre-war Bessen Mehas, only the Destino™ has greater flexibility of timbre.
I have to play a lot of different kinds of music ranging from being a member for 12 years with the St. Louis Brass Quintet to the avant garde with the Tone Road Ramblers (20 years) and bebop with various bands in and around Austin. I can comfortably negotiate all these styles with one horn, my new Destino™.
The horn simply does what I want it to do. I am practicing more than ever simply because it's more fun to play, explore and to see far I can go.
The C trumpet will get more use when I tour with it in September. I'll have more to say as soon as I have occasion to play the C trumpet regularly. The times I have played it, it has been wonderful.
And the overall response to the horns from my colleagues in the Austin area?
Simply fantastic.
The two trumpets are a great match.

The Destino™ Trumpet is simply the best trumpet I have ever played. Not only are the tone quality, intonation, and craftsmanship second to none, but the player's feel of the ease and control of the instrument is effortless.
Doc and partners have created a B-flat and C trumpet which are ideal for symphonic playing. They have an extremely full, rich tone which is dark and sings and projects with great efficiency. It is the only trumpet I have seen that is equally at home in a symphony orchestra, recital hall, or jazz ensemble.
What is unique about the Destino™ Trumpet is the effortless blowing sensation. Somehow, octaves feel like thirds, yet each note has a secure slot. The instruments are so efficient that the player needs only to think the next note to be played. No more subtle pushes or jabs or awkward intervals. I find that even when I am extremely tired, I can still play tricky passages which would be disastrous on any other trumpet.
Many big name orchestral players and soloists are raving about the new Doc Severinsen trumpets, and with good reason. Although their design is very simple, these trumpets are crafted from the highest quality German brass and heat-tempered differently than any other instruments ever made. The results are truly surprising and inspiring. You owe it to yourself to try them. You will be glad you did!

Wow!! what a great horn -- so even, in tune, and beautiful center of sound -- I feel like I'm right in the middle of it! [This was my first reaction to playing the horn]
As I continued to play Doc's "Destino™" trumpet, I realized that I was no longer having to compensate for pitch, unevenness, or working for the sound that I desired. Now that my mind was freed up from making a "regular" trumpet work, I could relax and just blow through the sound -- I feel like I'm just singing! It's incredible! From classical to jazz to lead trumpet playing -- this horn does it all! My family, friends, and colleges all noticed the difference; commenting, "what a beautiful sound - you sound great"
OK guys, I know what you're thinking..."yeah right -- so its a good horn -- I've bought many a new horn only to become disappointed after the honeymoon was over." I'm telling you this horn is different - it is the horn of a lifetime -- you will soon be selling your old stuff!
You can't imagine the difference this horn will make. I wouldn't believe it myself if I didn't already own one!!
My only problem is I don't have a new Destino™ C Trumpet...YET!!
Part II
Now that I have a "Destino™" Bb and a "Destino™" C Trumpet......... there's...........NO PROBLEM NOW !!
I have been the proud owner of a "Destino™" C Trumpet since the end of June. I knew that after blowing just a few notes on my new horn, that I had made the right decision! After playing my "Destino™" Bb, none of my old C trumpets could compete -- I found myself playing literature on Bb that I would normally do on C. With the orchestra season in full swing, I can assure you...... this is -- " The horn of a lifetime"
Doc's "Destino™" C Trumpet possesses the same remarkable qualities that the "Destino™" Bb has, and then some.........a lush, beautiful warm sound with a center that you can't imagine until you play one. The evenness, pitch and ease of playing are extraordinary. My colleagues love playing in the section with me, and I am having more fun performing than ever! What a difference this horn makes!

After many years of trying different B flat trumpets for use in the Orchestral and Jazz settings I have finally found the perfect match. Doc's new "Destino™" line of exquisite trumpets are a dream come true for performers like myself.
Not only are these instruments finely crafted to the highest quality, but the acoustical properties are the finest this player has ever come across. The quality of sound for both the Orchestral setting (Mahler #7 and Bizet "Carman") and crossing over to the Jazz needs with theColoradoSymphony has been unbelievable. I can get the most round, huge centered sound needed for second trumpet parts in the symphony setting without working as hard with the more standard "Bach" B flats. Then, with just the right mouthpiece combination, I can have a hard, driving lead sound that would be the envy of any Jazz trumpet section.
This truly is a "once- in- a- lifetime" trumpet, one that will never need replacing. I knew immediately after playing a few two octave triads that this new line of Doc's trumpets was absolutely the best. My practicing lasts so much longer because it's fun, and therefore more productive. I truly love the sound and the ease of playing on this trumpet
I also wanted to let you know how overwhelmed I have been these last few weeks playing on my new Destino™ C trumpet. Recently I had the great pleasure of playing with James Thompson and Gene Pokorny. Each man commented on the sound and ease they experienced when playing your trumpet. Around the same time, I did a recording with Jim Pugh soloing and Jeff Tyzik conducting. Both just loved the sound and control with which I had playing your new C trumpet.
I've had some very challenging works to play these past few weeks. If it wasn't for your Destino™ C trumpet I would have had a most difficult time executing some of the solos I was called upon to play. The Destino™ literally has made my job easier and more pleasurable than I have ever experienced before!!
Thanks Doc, for all of your hard work and professional input into these fantastic instruments.
Sincerely,
Daniel Kuehn
